Departmental vision<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be an internationally recognized center of excellence in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate dental students known for providing the best quality child oral health services in a respectful, friendly, humane and beautiful setting and renowned researchers and innovators in the paediatric dental specialty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short history of the Department<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paediatric Dentistry is an age defined specialty in dentistry that deals with infants and children through adolescence including those with special health care needs providing primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care. Students (undergraduates and postgraduates) are equipped with knowledge and skills to educate, diagnose and treat paediatric patients and their parents\/caregivers with respect and in a child-friendly environment as well as carry out research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Paedodontics, School of Dentistry, University of Benin Teaching is the first of its kind in Nigeria. It was created in September 2024 by unbundling the now defunct Preventive Dentistry Department and is geared to set the pace for others to follow in undergraduate and postgraduate dental training. It is involved in the training of undergraduate students in achieving the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree as well as postgraduate training (MSc and PhD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At our Department, we’re passionate about training the next generation of dental professionals to provide top-notch care for children. Our undergraduate and postgraduate programs focus on delivering exceptional oral health education, preventive care, and treatment for children and adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
